Another round of career expos take place at a number of City of Cape
Town libraries this May.
As part of the City's Inclusive Economic Growth Strategy, libraries will host career expos to assist learners, patrons, unemployed youth and those interested in making an informed career choice.
'The first round of career expos took place in March and I was encouraged to see so many young people taking hold of the opportunity for direction to a successful future. In May we are hosting eight more expos with a few taking place outside of the library buildings.
'It is an exciting way to discover your future career and get the information you need to ensure you're on track towards it. These expos are about more than just free career advice, but you're exposed to occupations you may not have been aware of and have an opportunity to network and practice your interview skills,' said the City's Mayoral Committee Member for Community Services and Health, Councillor Patricia van der Ross.
Partnering with external stakeholders, libraries remain an important vehicle for obtaining career information and will bring all the necessary role players together under one roof to get younger patrons excited about choosing a career,

| 11/05/2023 | 10:00 | 16:00 | Bishop Lavis Public Library | Pop up tables for the various tertiary institutions and careers. Each role-player will be given a seven minute slot to introduce themselves and talk about their career. |
| 13/05/2023 | 09:00 | 12:00 | Somerset West Library Hall | Various tertiary institutions will be available to assist students with application information. There will be a talk by a professor from UNISA about librarianship and a talk by a school guidance counsellor. NSFAS will be in attendance as well to assist with applications and information. |

| 18/05/2023 | 10:00 | 12:00 | Muizenberg High School | Representatives from various organisations giving short talks on their careers and setting up stations that pupils can go to and engage them further. |

| 31/05/2023 | 10:00 | 16:00 | Eikendal Public Library | Grade 11 and 12 learners from four secondary schools from the Kraaifontein area have been invited and representatives from various tertiary institutions and government departments will give talks or engage with learners about their careers.

'I want to encourage learners to attend these expos. Arm yourself with the information you need to make the best possible career choice you can. A career should be more than just a paycheck. An expo may just be the place where you find your calling,' added Councillor Van der Ross.
